This is a pilot scheme for South-Central Railways for use along the line that runs parallel to the coast. The system, which contains 25 servers, more than 250 cameras, and a 7.5 Terabyte distributed database, is accessible using a web browser or SQL queries. The video servers are connected by an ADSL/satellite uplink network. The control and facilities management system, which is located at Brighton, remotely monitors live video, configures alarms, searches for events, and downloads data. The typical time taken to search the entire video database for an object is less than one minute.
